Gov. Eric Holcomb announced the appointment Thursday. Jenner has been serving as Holcomb’s senior education adviser for the last year. 

It’s the first time the state’s top education official has been appointed, rather than elected, and the position will be a key one in the coming year as the state’s public schools continue to navigate through the coronavirus pandemic.
