Trevor Lawrence makes move up

SportsPulse: Dan Wolken reacts to the second College Football Playoff rankings and believes Ohio State can get into the playoff without qualifying for the Big Ten championship game given the committee’s track record.

If there’s no correlation between pass attempts and team success — six of the top 10 in attempts per game have a losing record, led by 2-6 Mississippi State — you can draw a connection between winning and per-pass production.

The top 10 teams in pass attempts per game have a combined record of 39-36, boosted immensely by Clemson (8-1 overall and fifth nationally) and Nevada (5-1 and ninth).

The top 10 in yards per attempt are a combined 54-12, with no losing records in the group and four unbeaten teams: Alabama, Brigham Young, Ohio State and Western Michigan.

It’s a quarterback-driven sport, and the production at the position has never been better. Here’s

College football odds, picks for Week 13 in ACC: Trevor Lawrence returns as No. 3 Clemson battles Pitt

For all that was made of the Dabo Swinney vs. Florida State administration feud (also known as the latest chapter in Dabo Swinney vs. The World), one aspect of last week’s game between the Tigers and the Seminoles getting postponed at the last minute that has gone under-discussed is the delayed return of Trevor Lawrence.

While the “Tank for Trevor” efforts are clearly all the rage in the NFL, we haven’t seen Lawrence play in more than a month. Prior to his positive COVID-19 test, Lawrence was pacing as one of the most productive and efficient quarterbacks in the entire country. He had a top-10 passer rating, top-10 completion percentage and 17 touchdowns to just two interceptions. Because he’s been a dominant piece of the college football conversation since the start of the 2018 season, Lawrence’s place among the elite quarterback talents is so entrenched that his actual production gets

The Niagara University men’s hockey team will not start its season at St. Lawrence University this weekend.

St. Lawrence announced Thursday that it has canceled its two-game nonconference series Friday and Sunday against Niagara in Canton. The St. Lawrence athletic department said in a statement that the cancellation of the series is because of a change in the campus Covid-19 alert status, from green to yellow (moderate risk).

St. Lawrence has also paused its hockey activities. The athletic department said there are currently nine active Covid-19 cases in the St. Lawrence community, and all athletic practices and competition have been suspended until Nov. 30.

The Purple Eagles are now scheduled to open the season Nov. 27 at Rochester Institute of Technology with a two-game, home-and-home series, pending the return of RIT’s season. RIT announced

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is the talk of college football.

Through six games, the senior has thrown 28 touchdowns in 211 attempts, putting him ahead of the record-setting pace set last season by LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who would win the Heisman Trophy in a landslide.

The competition for the Heisman is a bit stiffer in 2020. In terms of college production, in fact, this year’s quarterback class is ramping up to be one of the best in recent history.

Here’s a look at the best of the best — the 10 best Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks during a season when two dozen or more passers are under consideration.

Burrow played 15 games last season. Trask won’t play as many during this unique year. But if his current pace is extrapolated across
