LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Kentucky will partner with Baptist Health Lexington and Louisville’s Norton Healthcare after being selected as a site for a phase-3 COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial.

Research teams from UK’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Norton and Baptist are looking to enroll at least 2,000 volunteers for the trial, which is open to adults 18 and over who meet the criteria, according to a statement Thursday from the organizations.

Four executives, including UK’s Dr. Richard Greenberg, the principal investigator, are scheduled to discuss the details during a 10:30 a.m. virtual press conference

The trial aims to evaluate the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, which is given in a single dose. Up to 60,000 volunteers in the U.S. and around the globe are being enrolled in the trial at more than 200 research sites, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
