Indianapolis Colts’ Philip Rivers leaps Dan Marino for fifth on career passing list

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has moved ahead of Hall of Famer Dan Marino on the NFL’s all-time passing list.

Rivers’ first completion, an 11-yard pass to rookie running back Jonathan Taylor against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night, moved him ahead of Marino for fifth in career passing yards.

Rivers, 38, entered the game in Nashville, Tennessee, with 61,358 passing yards in his 17-year career, needing just 4 yards to pass Marino. He finished the night 29-for-39 passing for 308 yards, putting him at 61,666 yards for his career. The Colts won 34-17.

The only other quarterbacks with more passing yards than Rivers are either in the Hall of Fame or will be first-ballot Hall of Famers at some point: Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and record-holder Drew Brees.

Rivers has some work to do to surpass Favre, who threw for 71,838 yards in his career, for fourth

In Thursday night’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, Colts quarterback Philip Rivers moved into fifth all time in career passing yards, passing Dan Marino.

So, the year 2020 has worked its way into weird NFL statistics. Joe Flacco and Philip Rivers most likely don’t come to mind when it comes to all-time quarterback greats. But in a span of four days, they each passed all-time greats who are enshrined in the Professional Football Hall of Fame.

In Thursday night’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, Colts quarterback Philip Rivers moved into fifth all time in career passing yards, passing Dan Marino. Philips completed an 11-yard pass to Jonathan Taylor to take the fifth spot past Marino.

Marino finished his career with 61,361 career passing yards, which is now sixth in NFL history. Philips, who trailed Marino by just three

A blue-green glow adds to platypuses’ long list of bizarre features

Between the electricity-sensing bill, venomous heel spurs and egg laying, the platypus was already one of the strangest mammals alive today (SN: 5/8/08). Now, researchers have found that this Australian oddity has another unexpected feature: It fluoresces under ultraviolet light.

Platypuses’ dense, waterproof fur absorbs ultraviolet light and emits a blue-green glow, mammologist Paula Spaeth Anichand colleagues discovered somewhat serendipitously. A chance sighting of a fluorescent flying squirrel in the wild had led the researchers to the mammal collection at the Field Museum in Chicago. After examining the museum’s preserved squirrel skins and finding that fluorescence occurred in at least three flying squirrel species, the team decided to examine pelts from marsupials too, as those were the only mammals previously known to possess fluorescent fur. And it just so happened that the drawer of monotremes — an early branch of mammals that, today, is represented only by platypuses

Packers place former Gophers star Martin on COVID-19 list

The Green Bay Packers placed rookie linebacker Kamal Martin and running back Jamaal Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Martin, the former Burnsville High and Gophers star, missed time earlier this season because of knee surgery and returned to start two games, including one against the Vikings last Sunday.

The moves Tuesday come one day after Packers rookie running back A.J. Dillon went on the same list.

The reserve/COVID-19 list is for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been in close contact with an infected person.

Bears line hurting

Chicago could be missing four starters on their offensive line when they visit the Titans this week, after placing right tackle Bobby Massie on injured reserve and right guard Germain Ifedi on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Center Cody Whitehair missed Sunday’s game because of a groin injury. And left guard James Daniels suffered a pectoral injury in a

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Dillon is on the COVID-19 reserve list, but the game is still expected to be played as initially scheduled. He posted:

“Packers coach Matt LaFleur, wearing a mask in his press conference after AJ Dillon’s positive COVID test: “We are preparing to play on Thursday and if they tell us otherwise, we’ll adjust.” When asked whether tracing has determined any close contacts on the team, he said: “As far I know right now we are full speed ahead” while also noting it’s a fluid situation.”

Dillon, a 22-year-old rookie, has 23 carries for 97 yards so far this season.

The BC running back from New London, Connecticut was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, in the second round,

MPS department heads share expansive list of needs to improve system’s education quality

With proper funding, there could be fewer students per class and more small-group instruction. There could be trauma-informed schools, where everyone in the building knew how to recognize when a student showed signs they needed help. There could be air conditioned auditoriums and walls without falling plaster. There could even be Korean classes.

MPS Superintendent Dr. Ann Moore discusses how the proposed property tax increase could help Montgomery Public Schools.
