A Nov. 17 claim posted to Facebook says President Donald Trump is the true winner of the popular vote in the 2020 election — if “legal” votes are considered.

Student-loan forgiveness may be popular, but the cost of college must be cut | Mulshine

I see that a number of leading Democrats are encouraging Joe Biden to cancel up to $50,000 per person in student-loan debt.

I’m tempted to say, “Go, Joe, go.” I have two daughters who are stuck with big payments for college loans and I’m sure they’d like to start off with a clean slate.

But if we’re going to clean that slate, then let’s go all the way. Let’s attack the root cause of all that debt.

That’s inflation in the cost of higher education.

The COVID-19 crisis makes this an ideal time to address that problem. As the old saying goes, every crisis also offers opportunity. And this crisis has given us an opportunity to envision how a college education could be provided much more economically.

An excellent example is Princeton University. A Star-Ledger article last week told how undergrads have spent the current semester engaged in remote learning.

How the Electoral College works in Wisconsin, and why it’s unlikely go against the popular vote

Joe Biden has won the popular vote by over 5 million votes, but in the United States, it’s the Electoral College count that really matters. Biden has more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win, although recounts are happening in several states.

The Electoral College vs. Popular Vote Explained

Today, electors meet in their respective states on the first Monday after the second Wednesday of December — Dec. 14 this year — to cast separate ballots for president and vice president, with the candidates who receive a majority of votes being elected.

Electors are chosen every four years in the months leading up to Election Day by their respective state’s political parties. Processes vary from state to state, with some choosing electors during state Republican and Democratic conventions. Some states list electors’ names on the general election ballot.

The process of choosing electors can be an “insider’s game,” said Kimberly Wehle, a professor at the University of Baltimore and the author of “What You Need to Know About Voting and Why.” They are often state legislators, party leaders or donors, she said.

The important number is 270. A total of

Who chooses Electoral College, can it break with popular vote?

Democratic nominee Joe Biden secured enough Electoral College votes on Saturday to become the next president of the United States.

President Donald Trump isn’t likely to concede, members of his campaign team have told the media. But does he still have a path to victory?

Conservative talk radio show host Mark R. Levin declared in an all-caps Tweet Wednesday that Republican state legislatures “have the final say over choosing the electors” and told them to to “do your constitutional duty.”

Twitter has since flagged the message — which was retweeted by Republican National Committee spokesperson Elizabeth Harrington and Donald Trump Jr. — as possibly misleading.

Levin was referring to the process of choosing the electors who make up the Electoral College, which is dictated by political parties in each state, according to the U.S. National Archives.

The Electoral College race is down to the wire. The popular vote isn’t: Biden leads by 4 million.

As the presidential race inches agonizingly toward a conclusion, it might be easy to miss the fact that the results are not actually very close.

With many ballots still outstanding in heavily Democratic cities, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., with nearly 74 million votes, was leading President Trump by more than 4.1 million votes nationwide on Friday afternoon. His lead is expected to expand, perhaps substantially, as officials finish counting.

This means more Americans have voted for a Democrat for president than for a Republican in each of the past four elections, and seven of the past eight, the exception being 2004, when President George W. Bush beat John Kerry by about three million votes. But, depending on the outcome this year, only four or five times in those eight elections have Democrats gone on to occupy the White House.

It looks likely that Mr. Biden will secure

The Electoral College is close. The popular vote isn’t.

As the presidential race inches agonizingly toward a conclusion, it might be easy to miss the fact that the results are not actually very close.

With many ballots still outstanding in heavily Democratic cities, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was leading President Trump by 3.8 million votes nationwide as of late afternoon Thursday. His lead will expand, probably substantially, as officials finish counting.

This means more Americans have voted for a Democrat for president than for a Republican in each of the past four elections, and seven of the past eight, the exception being 2004, when President George W. Bush beat John Kerry by about three million votes. But, depending on the outcome this year, only four or five times in those eight elections have they actually put one in the White House.

It looks likely that Mr. Biden will eke out an Electoral College win. But the

With Biden winning the popular vote, here’s how America could end the Electoral College

DENVER – As the presidential election between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden focuses increasingly on a few swing states that will determine the winner, millions of Americans are asking why their votes are essentially being taken for granted.

Why does the electoral vote matter more than the popular vote?

Now, a long-running effort to make the nation’s presidential election a “one person, one vote” system is gaining favor among partisan Democrats still angry that Trump won the 2016 presidency despite losing the popular vote by more than 2.8 million votes. Anxious voters continued waiting Thursday for results, which at the time showed Biden ahead of Trump with a significant amount of both popular and Electoral College votes.

Joe Biden’s popular vote windfall over President Trump intensifies debate over Electoral College as presidential race draws to close

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The fight to get rid of one of the oldest political institutions in America took on new life Tuesday night.

The Electoral College, which ultimately decides presidential elections and has been a part of America since the signing of the Constitution, became the flashpoint in the back-and-forth counting of votes involving President Trump and Democrat Joseph Biden.

It chooses the president through a simple principle: The winner of the most votes in a state garners that state’s electoral votes, which are based on population and the number of members from that state’s congressional delegation. Ohio, for instance, has 18.

The candidate who picks up the majority of electoral votes, or 270, takes the election, even if the candidate fails to gain the popular vote.

Biden picked up more than 70 million votes, and his campaign is on pace to secure more popular votes than any candidate in
