Michigan State Spartans coach Tom Izzo on Nov. 9, 2020, after COVID-19 diagnosis: ‘It is serious and it’s invisible’

It’s on. That’s indisputable now, at least in recruiting: History is just a couple of reclassifications away.

Over the summer, Tom Izzo put together one of the best recruiting hauls of his tenure. Juwan Howard just exceeded him, for now anyway.

All Howard did is land the No. 1 class for 2021 entering Wednesday’s start of the early signing period. Izzo has the No. 6class, though that could change if two of his 2022 commits reclassify and join next year’s group.

If that happens — if Emoni Bates and Enoch Boakeye end up in East Lansing next fall — the Spartans will likely have the top-ranked class, with Bates as the top player in the country.  At worst, U-M would fall to No. 2.
