Ex-49er Frank Gore scores touchdown in third decade of long NFL career

Frank Gore added another milestone to his amazing career on Sunday, as the longtime 49ers tailback scored a touchdown for the New York Jets, marking the third decade in which Gore has found the end zone.

Gore’s NFL odyssey began when he was a third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2005 out of the University of Miami. Over 10 seasons in San Francisco, Gore ran for 11,073 yards and 64 touchdowns.

Since leaving the 49ers after the 2014 season, Gore has played for the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Jets. Gore scored his first touchdown of the season for the Jets on Sunday, and has 447 yards rushing in his age-37 season.

College football top 25 scores, overreactions, Week 12: What would Greg Schiano have done at Tennessee?

It doesn’t matter that Michigan beat Rutgers 48-42. It matters that the Wolverines needed a come-from-behind effort and three overtimes to do it.

The lament of Jim Harbaugh is a retread story, so we’ll save it for another time. The thing that keeps standing out is that there is a competent Rutgers team that cannot be pushed aside. While every year is a new opportunity to start over, it’s jarring how improved the Scarlet Knights look under coach Greg Schiano.

I was skeptical that Schiano 2.0 would work. It’s not that I don’t think Schiano is a good college coach, it’s that he previously led the program at a time when there was more room for success in the skeleton Big East. And if Rutgers wanted to move forward as anything other than a doormat, its best option was to find the next Schiano, not literally hire him again. It’s

College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, Week 12: Georgia, Cincinnati, Oregon avoid upsets

No. 13 Georgia returned to the field Saturday after a week off for its first game since a crushing loss to Florida two weeks ago, a defeat which all but ended Georgia’s hopes of an SEC Championship Game or College Football Playoff appearance. But the Bulldogs found something for their fans to get excited about on Saturday in a 31-24 win over Mississippi State.

Though it took a fourth-down stop in the final two minutes for Georgia to secure the win, Kirby Smart’s team appeared to finally find a quarterback as USC transfer JT Daniels completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in his SEC debut. Georgia needed every bit of the redshirt sophomore’s production as it generated just 8 rushing yards against a shorthanded Mississippi State team.

Daniels will be draft-eligible after this season, but if he stays in college another season after

College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, schedule, games today: Georgia, Auburn battle SEC foes

The stakes are ratcheting up this week in college football as teams jockey for positioning in the first batch of College Football Playoff rankings that will be released Tuesday. The headliner is No. 3 Ohio State’s game with No. 9 Indiana, but several other teams with playoff aspirations will be in action as well.

While No. 4 Clemson’s game at Florida State was postponed hours before kickoff, No. 1 Alabama, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Cincinnati, No. 8 BYU, No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 11 Oregon will all be in action before the evening wave of games even arrives. It would likely take a significant upset at the top for someone other than the current top-four in the polls — Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson — to crack the debut top four in the CFP rankings.

But it’s been a crazy year, and with a ton of ranked

College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, Week 11: Indiana sets up Ohio State showdown, Oregon rallies

When the Big Ten finally began its season last month, the most-anticipated game on the league’s schedule was an Oct. 31 showdown between No. 3 Ohio State and Penn State. It was supposed to be a game between top-10 division rivals who both harbored league title and College Football Playoff aspirations. It turns out we’re going to get a game fitting that bill — it’s just coming a bit later than expected with an opponent for the Buckeyes that few would have predicted.

When No. 10 Indiana dismantled Michigan State 24-0 on Saturday, the Hoosiers set up a game of massive proportions at No. 3 Ohio State next week. Penn State is reeling — the Nittany Lions fell to 0-4 on Saturday — but Indiana has picked up the slack to play the role of challenger to the Buckeyes in the Big Ten East. Indiana last beat Ohio State in

College football top 25 scores, overreactions, Week 11: It’s time to celebrate the unexpectedly good teams

2020 is a bad year for many things, but it’s been a good year for unexpectedly good teams. Week 11, in its own, backwards way, highlighted this fact. Fifteen games for Saturday were either postponed or canceled due to COVID-19. That’s a season high and reflective of what’s happening across the country. Among the 15 games that were scratched, six included top-25 teams. Alabama, Ohio State and Texas A&M didn’t play.

Sure, those games are missed, but it also makes room for the other teams every bit as deserving of our attention. Now’s the time to put more eyeballs on No. 7 Cincinnati, which just throttled ECU 55-17 on Friday. The Bearcats have a top-five defense per SP+ and quarterback Desmond Ridder has been a touchdown machine. And if you like passing, No. 8 BYU should be your favorite team. Quarterback Zach Wilson is getting first-round pub for next year’s

College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, schedule, games today: Florida vs. Arkansas, Oregon in action

A wave of postponements and cancellations related to COVID-19 issues raided the Week 11 college football schedule. But there are still 12 games on the Saturday docket involving ranked teams, and the stakes will be particularly high in the Big Ten. After cracking the top 10 for the first time since 1969 this week, Indiana will be in action during the early wave of games as the Hoosiers look to prove their merit as a contender in the Big Ten. But they will be facing a Michigan State team that showed a propensity for upsets two weeks ago when it beat then-No. 13 Michigan.

In addition to Indiana in action early on Saturday, another top 10-ranked team, No. 9 Miami, will take center stage as the Canes battle Virginia Tech in the noon ET slot. Also, playing under the lights Saturday will be No. 6 Florida, No. 11 Oregon and
