College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, schedule, games today: Georgia, Auburn battle SEC foes

The stakes are ratcheting up this week in college football as teams jockey for positioning in the first batch of College Football Playoff rankings that will be released Tuesday. The headliner is No. 3 Ohio State’s game with No. 9 Indiana, but several other teams with playoff aspirations will be in action as well.

While No. 4 Clemson’s game at Florida State was postponed hours before kickoff, No. 1 Alabama, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Cincinnati, No. 8 BYU, No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 11 Oregon will all be in action before the evening wave of games even arrives. It would likely take a significant upset at the top for someone other than the current top-four in the polls — Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson — to crack the debut top four in the CFP rankings.

But it’s been a crazy year, and with a ton of ranked

College football picks, odds for SEC in Week 12: Alabama rolls past Kentucky; Florida, Georgia dominate

The 2020 SEC football season is winding down, but there’s still plenty of intrigue facing many teams in the conference. South Carolina made the biggest headlines this week when it fired coach Will Muschamp after five-plus years at the helm. The Gamecocks have named former Colorado State coach Mike Bobo, who led the Georgia offense from 2007-14, as the interim head coach. Bobo’s first game at the helm will be Saturday night in Columbia against Missouri.

One of the more intriguing games of the weekend will take place in Fayetteville where Arkansas will host an LSU in a game in which Arkansas is actually a one-point favorite. Think about that for a second. What would you have said this time last year if I told you that Arkansas would be favored over LSU in 2020? You’d have called me crazy.

Let’s take a spin around the SEC and make picks

College football bowl projections: Will the ACC, Big Ten or SEC get two teams in the playoff?

What a strange week of college football. We saw a total of 15 games canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 that continues to surge nationwide. Included among those games were No. 1 Alabama at LSU and No. 3 Ohio State at Maryland. The Crimson Tide and Buckeyes are the top two seeds in my projected College Football Playoff.

The No. 3 seed is Clemson, and the Tigers had a scheduled week off following their loss at Notre Dame last week. The No. 2 Fighting Irish were the only top-five team to actually get a game in this week. They avoided a letdown and defeated Boston College 45-31 to remain in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. Notre Dame should get tested again next week when it travels to North Carolina.

No. 5 Texas A&M had its game with Tennessee postponed as well. The Aggies are not currently

College football schedule, Week 13 kickoff times: Alabama vs. Auburn in Iron Bowl picked for SEC on CBS

Thanksgiving weekend in the SEC usually brings a slate full of traditional and in-state rivalries that are as engrained into college football’s November routines as the feasts that will be enjoyed across the country. The lack of nonconference games has taken some of those out of rotation, but one of the best rivalries in the entire sport remains. What better pick for the SEC on CBS Game of the Week on Thanksgiving weekend than the rivalry that has divided family and friends in the state of Alabama for decades: the Iron Bowl.

No. 23 Auburn’s trip to No. 1 Alabama has been set for the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff with Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and Jamie Erdahl on the call from Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game can be seen on CBS and streamed on CBSSports.com or through CBS All Access and the CBS Sports App on mobile or OTT devices.

SEC teams hit hard; FAMU cancels delayed season

The coronavirus pandemic has forced sports across the country to adjust schedules and season formats — and college football also has been hit hard.

This week alone, four SEC games involving four ranked teams — LSU-No. 1 Alabama, No. 6 Texas A&M-Tennessee, No. 11 Georgia-Missouri and No. 21 Auburn-Mississippi State — have been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.

In the Big Ten, a COVID-19 outbreak at Maryland forced the cancelation of its game against No. 3 Ohio State on Wednesday. The game will not be rescheduled.

College football: Virus postponements hit SEC, Big Ten; 8 total games across FBS

The pandemic wrecked more plans across college football on Wednesday, with No. 12 Georgia at Missouri becoming the fourth game postponed in the Southeastern Conference alone, and No. 3 Ohio State’s visit to Maryland canceled because of a coronavirus outbreak.

“This is certainly a week unlike any other,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. “I’ve repeatedly said (since March) that the circumstances around the virus will guide our decisions.”

While the SEC will assess rescheduling options, there are no open dates built into the Big Ten’s nine-week schedule, and teams must play at least six games to qualify for the league championship game. The Buckeyes are now down to seven games at most, and No. 13 Wisconsin, which was favored to win the West Division and meet the Buckeyes in the league championship game, has already had two games canceled because of its own outbreak.

Among the three SEC games still

When SEC commissioner is ‘troubled’ by COVID-19 impact on college football, we must listen

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is college football’s most disciplined, careful messenger, a man who has conditioned himself to reduce every thought in his head to its most bland, non-controversial form for public consumption. He is the Dikembe Mutombo of swatting away hypotheticals, and his answers to most questions are meant to be as satisfying as 50-calorie beer.

So when Sankey suggests that the college football season is in some real trouble, as he did Wednesday during a media conference call, it’s probably wise to pay attention.

“I have to acknowledge (we’re) troubled by what’s happened this week,” Sankey said. “There’s still an opportunity to focus on (Dec.) 19th, but we have to adjust further within our programs to maintain the health that we did such a great job of early

College football rankings: Ohio State jumps to No. 2, four SEC teams in top 10 of CBS Sports 127

The CBS Sports 127 has been one week ahead of most polls and college football rankings — not just this season but in general, though it did happen again seven days ago as Alabama was named the new No. 1 team in the country last week. The first-place votes had been getting shifted around between Alabama, Clemson and even Ohio State for a few weeks, and after the Crimson Tide blew out Mississippi State while Clemson needed a late rally to erase a double-digit halftime deficit against Boston College, enough votes changed hands to make the swap official.

Alabama was moved to No. 1, while Clemson settled in at No. 2. Even that reduced ranking for the Tigers did not last long because after losing 47-40 in double-overtime at Notre Dame, they are down again in the CBS Sports 127, our comprehensive ranking of every FBS team

Texas A&M will continue its push for inclusion in the College Football Playoff race in a high-profile SEC West matchup against Ole Miss that has been picked as the SEC on CBS Game of the Week for Week 12.

The Nov. 21 date in College Station will be an opportunity for the Aggies to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee just days after releasing the first batch of rankings for 2020. Texas A&M is in a tough position in the SEC championship race due to its head-to-head loss to Alabama, but with a win over Florida on its resume, there is going to be plenty of debate as to where the one-loss Aggies stand against the best teams in the country over the coming weeks.

Of course, that assumes Texas A&M will be able to make it in and out of Knoxville this weekend with a win against
