Saginaw Valley State University’s campus closed Friday after an employee who had threatened to harm himself died by suicide, officials said.

Police for the university contacted the employee just before 8 p.m. Thursday and the school immediately alerted its campus community, they said.

Authorities brought in police negotiators who spoke to the employee through the night. However, officers found the man’s body in the Science West building on campus  about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Officials said no students were involved in the incident and no one else was injured. The incident is under investigation.

“We grieve over this loss,” SVSU President Donald Bachand said in a statement Friday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family.”
