Rush Propst is the first to admit his coaching career got off to a mediocre start.
He served as an assistant coach for eight years at three different schools and never coached in a playoff game.
His first eight years as a head coach at Ashville and Eufaula, garnered four playoff appearances and one semifinal run (Ashville, 1992).
“I remember very distinctly coming back from Mobile when I was at Eufaula after winning my 50th game,” he said. “At that time, I was 50-40 overall. That was 1996. It wasn’t a great start other than one great year at Ashville.”
Things have certainly changed in the 24 years since then.
Propst will have his first chance to collect career win No. 300 tonight when his Valdosta, Ga., team (4-3) travels to Lee County (7-1) for a key AAAAAA Region 1 game.
